MOVEMENT REFLECTS WORKPLACE CULTURE
I keep reading that employees don’t want lunchtime Pilates or wellness activities. That what they really want is culture change.
It’s got me thinking about this and here’s what I’ve come up with…
If we’re not moving our bodies for 8+ hours a day, that is a culture issue.
Culture isn’t just what’s written in a handbook. It’s what happens every day.
It’s whether people feel like they can take a breath.
Stand up.
Stretch.
Go for a walk without guilt.
It’s whether meetings are always back-to-back with no space to reset. It’s whether the environment says “stay still and power through” or “your body matters here.”
When people are encouraged (or even allowed) to move during the day, it sends a message. That wellbeing isn’t performative. That it’s safe to listen to your body. That this workplace is human.
So yes, movement is culture.
And how we treat the body at work is a reflection of how we treat people.
Want help bringing this kind of culture into your workplace? I run practical, desk-movement-based workshops and employee movement MOTs that support exactly that.
